Marriage and relationship counselling can work well to restore balance and understanding.

We all face stress in our lives on a day-to-day basis. It is a natural and healthy part of life, as long as it remains manageable. However when one or both partners are no longer willing to address issues or work towards a resolution within their relationship, these everyday issues can fester and become a real problem. If you feel that your relationship issues are getting out of control, it might be time to seek support from a couples counsellor.

As pressure builds within a relationship it is easy to get stuck in a negative cycle of bad habits. You may have stopped having fun together or perhaps you are no longer showing love and affection to each other. Often seemingly insignificant disputes, such as who empties the dishwasher, can turn into full-blown arguments about responsibility and commitment.

If you feel that you can no longer deal with these issues as a couple, you may find that a couple’s counsellor can help. It is important to communicate your concerns, whether that be with or without relationship counselling as, left unresolved, these feelings can lead to depression, a lowered self-esteem and feelings of guilt, shame, anger, blame, loneliness or betrayal.

It is important to recognise that the difficulties you face as a couple can also have a detrimental effect on you both individually, as well as on other members of your family. Relationship issues affect how you cope at work, your social life and can also lead to substance abuse or alcoholism. Furthermore, children or other relatives can also be influenced in a detrimental way if they witness, or are drawn into, arguments.

There is no need to wait until you feel that your relationship is unsalvageable. Many couples seek guidance from a relationship counsellor as a way to sustain a healthy relationship. However if feel that things have spiralled out of control please contact us and ask for counselling for your relationship.
